Private Guiding

20160715_145356 I’ve been guiding folks in the mountains since my early twenties with organizations such as Rainier Mountaineering Inc. and Sierra Mountaineering International. People with a range of experience from beginner to intermediate climbers have come to me for private guiding/instruction to help them develop climbing skills and/or help them fulfill their climbing aspirations.
This type of private guiding has become a large part of my work, assisting climbers develop their skills and achieve their goals in a variety of disciplines and terrain. Whether it’s bagging a desired peak, rock or ice climbing, a one day adventure or multi-day trip, nothing is too big or too small. Come hike through the Himalaya with me on my next 8000m expedition or join me in the High Sierra for fantastic alpine rock climbing!
My highest priority is to provide clients with an enjoyable and rewarding excursion into the mountains while maintaining a responsible margin of safety.

“Last week, [my friend] and I had the wonderful experience of having Alex as our guide. Alex was extremely patient. Also, Alex was constantly conscious of our safety. I cannot imagine anyone doing a better job as a guide than Alex Barber did on our expedition.  But the greatest experience of our climb was getting to know Alex. His accomplishments on 8000 meter peaks are inspiring–it shows what can be accomplished when a person sets a goal and obsessively pursues it.”  – Client – Ken McKnight

“Just returned from a trip climbing in the Palisades with Alex Barber. I Highly recommend Alex as a guide! He has a great personality, fun, and really loves his work. Alex is one of those few people gifted at high altitude and seems to get stronger the higher he goes. I have been mountaineering for years and he is a great mentor, teacher, and such a fun guy to climb with.  Alex skills are rock solid and safety is always first. I would definitely climb with him again!” – Client – Mike Zyzda
